This morning I had the best breakfast of my entire life at RachelCafe.
I think that you just interpreted that as: "I just had a really good breakfast!", but I truly meant that I have definitively just had the best breakfast of my entire life!
The small cafe is operated out of the chef's home in Yomitan, Okinawa, Japan. The cafe also doubles as a bed and breakfast, for those that wish to stay in a cozy home and wake up with a scrumptious meal. For those that do not plan on utilizing the B&B, you can still enjoy their breakfast. However unlike many other cafes on the island, you must set up a reservation in advance. The best way to coordinate is to schedule with the business via Facebook.
When you arrive for your reservation, you will immediately feel "at home". Your specific table will be prepared with a welcome sign and your name. The tropical plants surrounding the patio will make you feel like you're in a transformed treehouse. Sarah will come out with a chalkboard menu and go through the daily specials (I had my eye on the buy-two-get-one-free mimosas) and then take your order. There were four of us on the reservation, so we quite literally tried everything on the menu!
I tried the Eggs Benedict (watch the Tik Tok linked below for the mouth watering 'egg pop'), which came with a side of the crunchiest-on-the-outside/softest-on-the-inside potatoes I have ever experienced. I wish I could have ordered an extra side of just those potatoes! We also enjoyed the biscuits & gravy, a savory bacon and egg crepe, a waffle topped with ice cream, homemade banana bread (baked fresh every day), and of course: the mimosas. My bill totaled around $22USD (2,400 Yen). My bill would have been much cheaper if I hadn't had the mimosas, but what's brunch without some bubbly?
If you are on the island, stop what you're doing right now and make a reservation to visit RachelCafe! If you're not on the island but plan on visiting, consider this to be a required addition to your Okinawa Bucket List. Keep in mind that the cafe is yen only, so plan accordingly.
As if their breakfast wasn't enough to bring me back, I have recently heard through the grapevine that the cafe now offers private evening dinners to their list of services. I think you know I'll be setting up that reservation very soon!
Let me know if you have any questions about my experience at the cafe!
