If you are planning a day trip to Zamami Island, part of the Kerama Islands chain in Okinawa, Japan, here is a budget and packing list to enhance your planning! This budget and packing list correlates with my Zamami Island travel guide linked HERE.
Go read the travel guide first, then come back here. The travel guide fully details where we went, what we did, and includes maps, links, and photos!
FULL BUDGET
*listed in USD not Yen!
BUDGET NOTES
* We rented our snorkeling equipment from Tsunami Scuba on Camp Foster (pricing list can be found on their website) in Okinawa, Japan. We rented more than we needed, since this was our first time snorkeling here and my husband wanted a wetsuit. We rented: 2 snorkel sets, 2 sets of fins, and 1 wetsuit. In hindsight - the only things we really needed to rent were the snorkel sets and then the water boots. The boots would have helped tremendously in the context of those sharp rocks on the beach!
** In the travel guide you will read about where we went to lunch. Typically I take a photo of the menu for a couple reasons: so that I can remember the amount I spent, and to remember the names of what I ordered. Since I don't have the menu, and paid in yen, I am estimating based on what I remember paying for the taco rice and curry for 2 people.
*** While my estimated budget recommends that you budget ¥3,500 yen in cash to Zamami Island, a good rule of thumb is to add cushion to your budget. Personally, I brought ¥5,000 (approximately $50 USD) to use on this day trip.

PACKING LIST NOTES
* I was lucky in that I was traveling with my husband who did not need to pack as much as I did, and brought a larger gym bag rather than a backpack. If you are just packing your one backpack - it may be beneficial to look into snorkel gear rental opportunities on Zamami Island so that you do not have to travel with an overstuffed bag.
This was a really wonderful day trip and mini vacation - I really hope that you're able to utilize these tools above to plan your own trip for yourself! If you use this let me know and tag me in your vacation pics!
Happy and SAFE travels,
Austin Marie
