The only thing that could have made walking a baby goat and it's mother to a beach better would be if said goats were to be wearing pajamas. Since this is operated out of a small Okinawan farm, and goats in pajamas seems highly unlikely, I can let it slide.
Scroll to the bottom for the pin location, and more details on how to make a reservation.
Feeding these goats on Hamahiga Island was my first birthday excursion here in Japan and I felt good about ringing in 27 by supporting a local farm.
Churaumi Farm is surrounded by lush forest, home to forty goats, and produces and sells it's own honey. Unfortunately they were sold out of honey for the season when I went at the end of October. If your goal is to buy honey when you're visiting, confirm in advance if they have any for sale. Regardless, you will have to schedule a reservation in advance. I've listed the phone number below along with the location for your convenience.
Upon arriving, you pay ¥500 in person (¥500 is approximately equivalent to $5.00 USD). The farm owner will then let a few goats out of their holding pen, for you to be able to feed as you take the lovely stroll over to the beach. The walk is very easy, and I feel that most people would be able to do it. It was partially on a trail, partially on the grass, and partially on the beach (of course!). If I had to estimate, I would say it was probably less than 10 minutes of a walk between the farm and the shore.
The farm is practicing social distancing guidelines so it is requested that you bring a mask with you. In these times it is oh so important to respect the space of the host/hostess wherever you may be. If you think you may be sick, or think you may have been exposed, be polite and stay home. If you feel that you are good to go, and are ready to feed baby goats - I recommend to try and schedule it for a sunny day so that the water is crystal clear for your photos!
I hope these photos have inspired you to want to visit Churaumi Farm! And, if you are not here in Okinawa, I hope that I have inspired you to find opportunities like this in your local area!
